Tonight, Sunday 23 July, and again on Sunday 20 August, you can enjoy opera in Sitges with a performance of Tosca in the perfect setting of the Palau de Maricel, as part of the Sitgestiu summer cultural festival that runs through July and August.
Performed by the Petita Comanyia Lírica de Barcelona, the plot of Tosca is set in a turbulent moment of history in Italy, the defeat of the Austrian army at the hands of Napoleon in 1800. It revolves around three characters: Floria Tosca, a famous singer who is in love with the painter Mario Cavaradossi, a man of revolutionary ideas, and Baron Scarpia, chief of police, an amoral man who abuses his power.
Love, jealousy, deceit, violence and death come together in this opera in which Puccini also reflects the power of the strong over the weak.
The performers are:
- Floria Tosca: Carolina Fajardo
- Mario Cavaradossi: Facundo Muñoz
- Baró Scarpia: Lucas Groppo
- Angelotti / Sagristà: Néstor Pindado
- Piano: Elke Sanjosé
The performance starts at 8pm and tickets are €20 (with other standard price reductions), which includes a glass of cava. Click here for tickets.
