Frames, mosaics & giants: Family Workshops at the Sitges Museums’ summer festival

There are three Family Workshops to enjoy at the Sitges Museums’ festival over the coming weeks – this Thursday 25 July, and then also on Thursday 8 August and Thursday 15 August.

The museums’ summer festival, known as ‘Sitgestiu’, offers a total of 37 very diverse cultural activities for all tastes during the months of July and August, and with many events also in English.

The three workshops below are being held in Spanish and Catalan and are suitable for children from 5-11 years (approximately) – and, of course, parents and adults! – and they take place at the Racó de la Calma from 6pm, at a cost of just €4. Each workshop runs for around 90 minutes. See the details below for a link to reserve tickets for each event,.

Thursday 25 July – ‘A frame for a work of art’

Sometimes when we visit a museum or an exhibition, one of the things that really catches our attention is the picture frame that surrounds a work of art, as a frame always ends up enhancing the exhibit. During this workshop you will experiment with different materials so that each person can work on their own frame and then put their own style on it. At the end of the workshop you will visit the works of the exhibition ‘The Framed Figure’, with works from the Casacuberta Marsans Collection in the Sala Vaixells of the Palau de Maricel. Thursday 8 August – Mosaic Creations

Mosaics can be made with different materials such as glass and ceramics … creating small squares of different colours called ‘tessellations’ to show very original images, landscapes and shapes. At the ‘Models de bellesa’ exhibition, on display is one of the mosaics that you will work on in this workshop. It will be the figure of Emperor Justinian, which you will use coloured papers to fill with tiles all over his face. Click here for tickets.

Thursday 15 August – Cutting out and dressing ‘The Giants’

For these dates close to the Sitges Festa Major, the parading, dancing and presence of the Three Giants in Sitges is always celebrated. In this family workshop you can use the cut-out figures of the giants to experiment using watercolour, painting the colours and textures of the clothes of each group of giants, and which they can take off and put on whenever they want. Click her for tickets.
