The Mossos d’Esquadra from Roses in northern Catalonia, in collaboration with the Local Police of Castelló d’Empúries (Alt Empordà), have solved the theft of a luxury watch stolen in Empuriabrava, valued at around 11,000 euros.
One of the three alleged thieves, recognised thanks to security cameras, has been arrested in Sitges and has been brought before the courts.
The events took place back in May, when the victim got out of a car that she had parked at the entrance to her house, at around 9.30pm. The next day, she reported the robbery with violence and intimidation. She said that two men had distracted her by asking for the location of a restaurant, and while she was giving them directions they beat her and took the watch from her wrist, causing minor injuries. The thieves made off on foot with the loot.
As a result of the investigation, the police discovered that the perpetrators had previously been watching the victim. She had been spotted sitting on the terrace of a bar, followed by car and then accosted at the entrance to her house. The investigation concluded that three men had participated in the robbery, two who interacted with the victim and a third who was waiting for them with a vehicle to ensure the escape and make identification difficult.
Once the thieves were identified, the investigation unit issued search and arrest orders for the crimes of robbery with violence, injuries and membership of a criminal group, considering that the thieves acted together, in a coordinated and organised manner with the purpose of committing the crime.
On 27 June, the Barcelona local police arrested one of those involved, a 19-year-old boy, in the city’s Rambla area. The next day, the Mossos arrested another of those involved, a 38-year-old man, in Sitges. The investigation is not concluded and the arrest of the third perpetrator, who has not yet been located, is pending.
Those arrested, with criminal records for similar acts, were both brought before the courts of Vilanova and Geltrú.
