Trace the links between Picasso and Sitges in a guided tour in English this Sunday

As part of the Sitgestiu summer cultural festival that runs through July and August, the Sitges Museums are offering a guided tour in English, Catalan and Spanish of the ‘physical and intellectual itinerary tracing the links between Sitges and Pablo Picasso from various viewpoints’.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the death of Picasso, with dozens of exhibitions, activities and events to celebrate the legacy of the artist. Sitges was also one of Picasso’s favourite haunts. He visited the town on several occasions, at the turn of the century and in the 1930s, for different reasons, thanks to his friendship with the artist Carles Casagemas – and in the 1930s, after the death of Rusiñol who he met decades before.

In the Museums of Sitges there there are six works on permanent display by Picasso who was born in Málaga.

The guided tour itinerary brings together Picasso, Rusiñol, Utrillo, Casagemas, El Greco, Maricel, Cau Ferrat and the beach of Sant Sebastià, all referenced in documents and testimonies that link Sitges with one of the foremost artists in the history of art.

The tour takes place at 19h this Sunday 16 July and again on Sunday 6 August, and the price is just €10, which includes a glass of cava. Click here to book your tickets.

There is also an exhibition running until 24 September at the Museu Maricel that celebrates the links between Rusiñol and Picasso.  ALSO READ: The links between Rusiñol and Picasso are celebrated in new Sitges exhibition.

In its 25th anniversary, the ‘Sitgestiu’ festival is offering over 30 events and activities that mix music, opera, jazz, family workshops, film screenings, sensory experiences, wine tasting dinners as well as many guided heritage and art tours, among others – and with many events also being offered in English.
