Around 15 people were involved in a mass brawl on Saturday night in the Carrer Primer Maig in Sitges.
Between 8 and 10 people, according to the Catalan police, the Mossos d’Esquadra, confronted four security guards at the entrance of one of the premises, many of them throwing chairs, glasses, bottles and other objects. When the officers intervened, a local policeman was injured with a bottle. The Mossos are investigating the incident, based on the identification of the perpetrators, and the enquiry is on-going.
The fight started at around 2am, following an argument between some of the alleged aggressors with a security guard outside one of music venues on Carrer Primer de Maig.
Others quickly joined in the argument, and started throwing bottles, glasses and chairs at the guards. Faced with this situation, the Mossos and Local Police officers intervened, trying to contain the fight, ‘putting their physical integrity at risk’, according to municipal sources. Two Mossos public order patrols also attended the scene.
As a result, a Local Police officer was hit with a bottle in the face. He was treated by the Emergency Medical Service. Other officers received minor bumps and bruises, but did not require medical attention. The police decided to evacuate the rest of the venues on the street, all of which had to close.
The Mossos have taken charge of the investigation, which will begin from the identification of the perpetrators, and of the possible complaints that there may be for physical and material damage.
