The Festival Jardins Terramar de Sitges kicks off this Wednesday 24 July until Friday 9 August – and there are still some tickets available for a few of the great acts.
Ludovico Einaudi’s opening concert on 24 July is already a sell out and very soon Sopa de Cabra (27 July) and Meendi (31 July) will also be putting up ‘sold out’ posters.
However, there are still tickets available for three special international acts – Hauser on Thursday 1 August – The Waterboys (main image) on Friday 2 August – and the renowned God Save The Queen tribute band on Thursday 8 August. It will be the only opportunity to see Hauser and The Waterboys on any stage across Catalonia this summer.
The Waterboys
The British folk rock band The Waterboys was originally formed in 1983 by Scottish musician and songwriter Mike Scott. The band’s membership, past and present, has been composed mainly of musicians from Scotland, Ireland, Wales and England – with Scott the only constant member throughout the band’s career. They have explored a number of different styles, but their music is mainly a mix of folk music with rock and roll. They dissolved in 1993 when Scott departed to pursue a solo career. The group reformed in 2000, and continue to release albums – with 15 to date – and to tour worldwide. They perform in Sitges on 2 August (ticket link below).
Hauser
Stjepan Hauser – known professionally as just Hauser – is a Croatian cellist whose musical show Rebel with a Cello is a recreation of great musical hits of all time, accompanied by a spectacular symphony orchestra with which he tours around the world.
As part of the quintessential 2Cellos, Hauser has performed throughout the world – from the Royal Albert Hall and the Sydney Opera House to New York’s Madison Square Garden – selling more than one million tickets to their live shows.
His virtuosic and soulful playing style has been recognised with no fewer than 21 first prizes amongst the world’s most prestigious national and international music competitions. He performs in Sitges on 1 August (ticket link below).
God Save The Queen
Queen are considered to be one of the most important bands of the 20th century and have been probably one of the most influential in history. And the Argentine tribute group God Save The Queen have earned international recognition for being the band that best represents the spirit of the group formed in 1970 by the legendary Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon.
God Save the Queen will be performing a full repertoire of classics, such as Radio Gaga, Bohemian Rapshody, We Will Rock You, Friends Will Be Friends, We Are The Champions, I Want To Break Free and Don’t Stop Me Now. They perform on 8 August (ticket link below).
Every evening, the festival Village is also hosting the Imprescindibles programme of local and regional talent, with 22 very varied performances on the Alhambra Stage, which includes seven concerts, four dance shows and 11 DJ sessions, organised by the culture department of Sitges Town Council. Access to the village is just €5, and tickets can be purchased at the gate each evening.
The organisers of the festival, Terra Music & Events, are also donating €0.50 for each ticket sold throughout the festival to the Fundació Hospital Sant Joan Baptista of Sitges, which is celebrating its 700th anniversary this year.
