Sitges is third town in Catalonia with most ‘official protected housing’

The Sitges Town Council has launched, since last year, an ambitious project of 175 officially protected homes for rent, most of them already under construction.

The dual aim is to encourage an overall drop in rental prices and to also have ‘an affordable housing stock for our young people and families living in the town’, in the words of local councillor Eduard Terrado.

Sitges is the third municipality in Catalonia, surpassed only by Barcelona (595 protected flats) and Viladecans (with 282).

The 43 officially protected properties in the first phase of the project, located on Carrer Manuel Torrents, in the La Plana – Santa Bàrbara area, will be completed in the summer of 2022.

Located on municipal land, and with two or three bedrooms, they will be rented at seven euros per square metre. Although the criteria for how the properties will be awarded to tenants is still under study, those who are interested should register in the municipal list for Social Protection Housing Applicants.
