No parking in Carrer Santiago Rusiñol, and El Retiro work temporarily closes other streets

Carrer Santiago Rusiñol in Sitges no longer has parked vehicles, following the recent implementation of the town council’s measure to facilitate access for situations of emergency.

This new rule has completely changed the landscape of the street and it is reminiscent of the days before festivities such as Corpus Christi, Festa Major or Carnival, when vehicles are prohibited so that it can be used as a space for celebrations.

The local council’s decision was made following the problems that the Fire Department vehicles had in accessing the street on the morning of 13 January, when a house fire claimed the life of a Sitges resident. On previous occasions, garbage trucks and other goods vehicles had also had accessibility problems.

At the same time, closures of some streets have started this week due to the renovation work to be carried out at El Retiro. The entrance and exit of heavy trucks that have to load and unload material and rubble is being done via through Rafel Llopart, Santiago Rusiñol, Sant Damià, Àngel Vidal and Joan Maragall streets. This takes place from Monday to Friday, from 8am to 11am and from 3pm to 5pm.

The refurbishment project of El Retiro will turn the hall-theatre into a versatile and dynamic space where a wide variety of events can be held.
