A new ‘1324’ wine to celebrate 700 years of the Hospital Sant Joan in Sitges

In celebration of this year’s 700th anniversary of the Hospital Sant Joan in Sitges, a new wine has been created by the Celler de l’Hospital de Sant Joan Baptista, and which aims to capture the essence and tradition of bygone times with sparkling characteristics made by following an ‘ancestral method’.

To make it even more apt, the name given to the new wine is ‘1324’, the year in which the knight Bernat de Fonollar, lord of the castle of Sitges, established a hospital in the current complex of the Maricel, with the purpose of welcoming the poor, pilgrims, orphans and those who were sick. It was located just above the rocks of the sea, within the medieval wall of Sitges.

The launch of the 1324 wine also opened the season of ‘La Malvaseria’, the wine tasting area at the Malvasia Interpretation Center (CIM), an emblematic place that offers a unique wine and food experience, with gastronomic delights designed to complement the incomparable aroma of Malvasia de Sitges wine.

During the event, CIM also revealed its programme of eno-cultural activities for 2024, with a range of workshops, guided tours and special events for visitors.
