Alleged paedophile arrested in Sitges on charges of sexually assaulting several minors

The Spanish National Police have arrested an alleged paedophile in Sitges on charges that he sexually assaulted several minors in his immediate environment.

The man detained, now in provisional prison, recorded the assaults while hiding his face and then posted them on the internet, using different Dark Web channels used by paedophiles around the world. According to a police statement, six victims between the ages of 3 and 10 have so far been identified, and they claim that the man has been perpetrating assaults since at least 2016.

The victims identified so far are the children of ‘friends or minors with whom he had lived’ or worked. The investigation remains open and more victims are not ruled out, since it has been detected that the person being investigated had been a monitor at different football clubs.

The arrest took place on 11 January in Sitges, where the man lived. International police also cooperated in the operation, specifically the police in Queensland, Australia, as well as Interpol. The Local Police of Sant Pere de Ribes are also taking part in the investigation

The detainee used strong security measures, with the agents having to use image recognition techniques and other police intelligence to be able to identify the alleged perpetrator.
