Creative Connexions Ireland: Sitges ’22 – Irish Arts Festival returns to Catalonia

The Creative Connexions Ireland: Sitges ’22 Festival is returning to Catalonia in full strength this year, with more than 60 musicians from Ireland travelling to Sitges in late October for a four-day festival of music, dance, theatre and youth arts.

From Thursday 27 October until Sunday 30 October, this year’s festival will see world premieres of new Irish works, a high-energy dance event and the dynamic folk orchestra NoCrows – a unique group with diverse musical roots, from Irish traditional to Latin rumba, classical, jazz, rock and Balkan music.

New for this year is The Fiddler of Sitges, an international folk fiddle competition and the festival is also delighted to have the iconic Mercat Vell as a new home for the evening and late-night gigs.

Irish performers at the festival include blues singer Mary Coughlan, actor Geraldine Plunkett, fiddlers Ultan O’Brien, Paul Kelly, Mossie Martin, dancer Nic Gareiss as well as Dublin’s own The X Factor finalist Mary Byrne. They will be joined by a stalwart line-up of Catalan and Spanish musicians – Anais Falcó, Bellaveu, Bruel, Ángel Laguna, multi-instrumentalist Joan Pinós and many more from the heart of the Sitges music scene. Throughout the weekend the exceptional festival musicians, young and old, will showcase their talent in some of Sitges’ loveliest gardens in a series of outdoor day-time concerts that have become a firm festival favourite.

And there’s more … as well as the ticketed events there will also be more than 30 Fringe events, including ‘A Walk around Sitges’, the Festival Parade, the renowned Human Towers, Sitges Sessions, a dynamic youth programme with over 200 young Irish performers making the trip to Sitges this year, Have a Go workshops, WE’RE BACK Youth Stage, Sitges Futbol Gaèlic, pop-up events at key Sitges locations, music and song with Armagh TAP, Comhaltas Bhré, Roscommon Music Generation Youth Voices, Glengormley School of Traditional Music, Craobh Phiarais and new for this year: the OPEN WINDOW Sessions.
