Taxi users and Sitges hoteliers dismayed at ‘lack of vehicles’

Summer and especially August is the period when there is the greatest influx of tourists in Sitges, coming not only from all over Catalonia but the whole world, and which equates to an increase in vehicle traffic as well as a greater demand for the local taxi service.

At the largest hotels in the town, however, on weekends and especially on Sundays many customers have been waiting a long time for a taxi to arrive.

For the hotels located at the Terramar, Can Girona and Aiguadolç areas, the usual destination of taxi users is to the centre of the town – to restaurants and shops, as well as the train or bus station – but also to the airport. There are also many requests from private villas or urbanisations.

As one local hotelier explained, however, on Sundays – ‘if the hotel has been very full and a hundred rooms are vacated at once’ – with just half that number requesting a taxi service it already more than covers the 37 vehicles that the town currently has.
