Man arrested in Sitges after stealing a backpack on the beach

Sitges local police arrested a man who had just stolen a backpack from a visitor on La Ribera beach on Sunday afternoon.

The thief grabbed the backpack where a group of friends had left their belongings, and ran from the beach towards l’avinguda Sofia. The victim and his companions also ran after him, but ended up losing track of him.

The group of young people then called the local police, who immediately mobilised a patrol of agents, who moved to various points, especially the exit routes out of Sitges. Minutes later they found a person who responded to the same description as the suspect waiting for a bus at the Can Robert stop. He was carrying the stolen backpack with him.

Officers arrested the man and took him to the local police station in Poble Sec. The victim was also present, who was able to retrieve his backpack, with all his belongings and those of his friends. Local police have charged the perpetrator.
