The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Wednesday 23 February for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 10,914,105. This is an increase of 33,911 against Tuesday’s figure. Tuesday had seen an increase of 22,194 over Monday.

The incidence rate has fallen 59 points to 676 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Tuesday it was 735 and Monday 786. The highest recorded incidence rate in Spain throughout the entire pandemic was 3,418 on Friday 21 January. See below for the current incidence rate for each region.

The age group with the highest incidence rate is those aged 12-19, at 1,030. The incidence rates per age group are as follows:

  • Aged 11 and under – 775 (previously 847)
  • 12-19 years – 1,030 (1,074)
  • 20-29 years – 820 (853)
  • 30-39 years – 743 (788)
  • 40-49 years – 721 (763)
  • 50-59 years – 508 (524)
  • 60-69 years – 432 (450)
  • 70-79 years – 472 (487)
  • Aged 80 and over – 665 (704)

There are currently 8,258 people hospitalised for Covid-19 (previously 8,859), representing a 6.64% occupation of hospital beds across Spain (7.13%). 1,162 are in intensive care (1,185), representing 12.52% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid patients across the country (12.77%).

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Wednesday 23 Feb is now 98,936 – an increase of 301 since Tuesday.

The current incidence rate for each region on Wednesday 23 Feb is as follows:

  • 1,126 in Galicia (previous incidence rate: 1,194)
  • 977 in Murcia (1,040)
  • 881 in Extremadura (966)
  • 843 in Catalonia (951)
  • 841 in the Valencia Region (922)
  • 809 in Cantabria (887)
  • 795 in La Rioja (848)
  • 781 in Castilla y León (834)
  • 780 in Aragón (848)
  • 767 in Asturias (832)
  • 745 in Navarra (789)
  • 639 in the Balearic Islands (684)
  • 603 in the Basque Country (657)
  • 611 in the Canary Islands (560)
  • 476 in Madrid (524)
  • 433 in Castilla La Mancha (500)
  • 390 in Andalusia (419)
  • 568 in Ceuta (599)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (with data collated up to Wednesday 16 February) show that Spain has administered 92,022,504 jabs of the Covid vaccine. 38,396,333 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 81.0% of the total population. A further 23,653,058 ‘booster’ jabs have also been administered.
