The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Monday 21 February for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 10,858,000. This is an increase of 48,778 against Friday’s figure. Friday had seen an increase of 30,615 over Thursday.

The incidence rate has fallen 133 points to 786 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Friday it was 919 and Thursday 984. The highest recorded incidence rate in Spain throughout the entire pandemic was 3,418 on Friday 21 January. See below for the current incidence rate for each region.

The age group with the highest incidence rate is those aged 12-19, at 1,181. The incidence rates per age group are as follows:

  • Aged 11 and under – 957 (previously 1,191)
  • 12-19 years – 1,181 (1,370)
  • 20-29 years – 927 (1,050)
  • 30-39 years – 878 (1,033)
  • 40-49 years – 848 (1,002)
  • 50-59 years – 571 (656)
  • 60-69 years – 491 (565)
  • 70-79 years – 529 (603)
  • Aged 80 and over – 772 (882)

There are currently 9,364 people hospitalised for Covid-19 (previously 9,742), representing a 7.56% occupation of hospital beds across Spain (7.84%). 1,224 are in intensive care (1,284), representing 13.20% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid patients across the country (13.79%).

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Monday 21 Feb is now 98,462 – an increase of 464 since Friday.

Incidence rate per region

The current incidence rate for each region on Monday 21 Feb is as follows:

  • 1,270 in Galicia (previous incidence rate: 1,500)
  • 1,183 in Catalonia (1,183)
  • 1,119 in Murcia (1,335)
  • 1,056 in the Valencia Region (1,221)
  • 1,038 in Extremadura (1,180)
  • 951 in Cantabria (1,186)
  • 904 in Aragón (1,146)
  • 899 in La Rioja (995)
  • 892 in Castilla y León (1,033)
  • 878 in Asturias (1,021)
  • 866 in Navarra (1,050)
  • 747 in the Balearic Islands (907)
  • 713 in the Basque Country (887)
  • 584 in Madrid (670)
  • 562 in Castilla La Mancha (663)
  • 528 in the Canary Islands (525)
  • 453 in Andalusia (471)
  • 634 in Ceuta (714)
  • 439 in Melilla (534)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (with data collated up to Wednesday 16 February) show that Spain has administered 92,022,504 jabs of the Covid vaccine. 38,396,333 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 81.0% of the total population. A further 23,653,058 ‘booster’ jabs have also been administered.
