The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Tuesday 22 February for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 10,880,194. This is an increase of 22,194 against Monday’s figure. Monday had seen an increase of 48,778 over Friday. Catalonia has not updated its figures for today’s report.

The incidence rate has fallen 51 points to 735 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Monday it was 786 and Friday 919. The highest recorded incidence rate in Spain throughout the entire pandemic was 3,418 on Friday 21 January. At the start of February the incidence rate was 2,694. The age group with the highest incidence rate is those aged 12-19, at 1,074. The incidence rates per age group are as follows:

  • Aged 11 and under – 847 (previously 957)
  • 12-19 years – 1,074 (1,181)
  • 20-29 years – 853 (927)
  • 30-39 years – 788 (878)
  • 40-49 years – 763 (848)
  • 50-59 years – 524 (571)
  • 60-69 years – 450 (491)
  • 70-79 years – 487 (529)
  • Aged 80 and over – 704 (772)

There are currently 8,859 people hospitalised for Covid-19 (previously 9,364), representing a 7.13% occupation of hospital beds across Spain (7.56%). 1,185 are in intensive care (1,224), representing 12.77% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid patients across the country (13.20%).

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Tuesday 22 Feb is now 98,635 – an increase of 173 since Monday.

The current incidence rate for each region on Tuesday 22 Feb is as follows:

  • 1,194 in Galicia (previous incidence rate: 1,270)
  • 1,040 in Murcia (1,119)
  • 966 in Extremadura (1,038)
  • 951 in Catalonia (1,183)
  • 922 in the Valencia Region (1,056)
  • 887 in Cantabria (951)
  • 848 in Aragón (904)
  • 848 in La Rioja (899)
  • 834 in Castilla y León (892)
  • 832 in Asturias (878)
  • 789 in Navarra (866)
  • 684 in the Balearic Islands (747)
  • 657 in the Basque Country (713)
  • 560 in the Canary Islands (528)
  • 524 in Madrid (584)
  • 500 in Castilla La Mancha (562)
  • 419 in Andalusia (453)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (with data collated up to Wednesday 16 February) show that Spain has administered 92,022,504 jabs of the Covid vaccine. 38,396,333 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 81.0% of the total population. A further 23,653,058 ‘booster’ jabs have also been administered.
