CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Friday 25 February for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 10,977,524. This is an increase of 27,527 against Thursday’s figure. Thursday had seen an increase of 35,892 over Wednesday.

The incidence rate has fallen 35 points to 613 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Thursday it was 648 and Wednesday 676. The highest recorded incidence rate in Spain throughout the entire pandemic was 3,418 on Friday 21 January. See below for the current incidence rate for each region.

The age group with the highest incidence rate is those aged 12-19, at 938. The incidence rates per age group are as follows:

  • Aged 11 and under – 664 (previously 720)
  • 12-19 years – 938 (983)
  • 20-29 years – 752 (792)
  • 30-39 years – 667 (713)
  • 40-49 years – 649 (691)
  • 50-59 years – 472 (492)
  • 60-69 years – 401 (421)
  • 70-79 years – 437 (457)
  • Aged 80 and over – 611 (645)

There are currently 7,248 people hospitalised for Covid-19 (previously 7,824), representing a 5.84% occupation of hospital beds across Spain (6.27%). 1,053 are in intensive care (1,112), representing 11.38% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid patients across the country (11.95%).

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Friday 25 Feb is now 99,410 – an increase of 248 since Thursday.

The current incidence rate for each region on Friday 25 Feb is as follows:

  • 999 in Galicia (previous incidence rate: 1,059)
  • 875 in Murcia (920)
  • 799 in Catalonia (831)
  • 755 in Extremadura (810)
  • 704 in Asturias (742)
  • 699 in La Rioja (758)
  • 693 in the Valencia Region (761)
  • 692 in the Canary Islands (650)
  • 683 in Cantabria (741)
  • 683 in Aragón (727)
  • 678 in Castilla y León (725)
  • 663in Navarra (706)
  • 561 in the Balearic Islands (600)
  • 523 in the Basque Country (559)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (with data collated up to Thursday 25 February) show that Spain has administered 92,491,319 jabs of the Covid vaccine. 38,425,973 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 81.1% of the total population. A further 24,031,054 ‘booster’ jabs have also been administered.
