CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Tuesday 25 May for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 3,652,879. This is an overall increase of 5,359 against the figure released on Monday, of which 2,100 have occurred in the past 24 hours.

Monday had seen an overall increase of 11,067 over Friday, of which 1,017 occurred in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered. 

The overall incidence rate has dropped just one point to 128.12 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Monday it was 129.41 and Friday 135.77.

Only two regions are above 200: the Basque Country (212) and Madrid (202). It remains under 100 in eight regions: Valencia (29), the Balearic Islands (37), Asturias (69), Murcia (72), Galicia (77), the Canary Islands (83), Extremadura (83) and Cantabria (84).

There have now been 60,792 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 3,652,879. The figure for the past 7 days is 27,652

There are currently 5,412 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain, of which 1,552 are in intensive care. This represents 15.97% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain. 

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths on Tuesday 25 May is now 79,801 – an increase of 90 since Monday

Increase in infections per region

Of the 2,100 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours on Tuesday 25 May, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 806 in Madrid (last 24 hour increase was 171)
  • 259 in the Basque Country (233)
  • 221 in Castilla y León (122)
  • 125 in Aragón (71)
  • 104 in Andalusia (96)
  • 90 in the Canary Islands (89)
  • 77 in Extremadura (26)
  • 70 in Catalonia (27)
  • 68 in Murcia (16) 
  • 53 in Navarra (46)
  • 46 in Galicia (36)
  • 43 in Cantabria (20)
  • 42 in La Rioja (28)
  • 35 in Asturias (29)
  • 24 in the Valencia Region (3)
  • 12 in the Balearic Islands (9)
  • in Castilla La Mancha (0) 
  • 0 in Ceuta (1)
  • 20 in Melilla (5)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (up to 25 May) show that Spain has received 27,233,325 doses of Covid-19 vaccines and that 24,876,302 jabs have been administered. 16,953,205 people have now received at least one jab, representing 35.7% of the population. 8,250,814 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 17.4% of the population.
