Police dismantle criminal gang that smuggled drugs along Garraf coast

A macro operation deployed by Spain’s Guardia Civil in the early hours of last Tuesday, against the leaders of a criminal gang responsible for transporting more than 5.5 tonnes of hashish and five automatic weapons via the Garraf coast at the end of August, ended with a total of eight people arrested.

In total there were around 20 raids and searches carried out in different locations in the province of Barcelona and Tarragona, such as Martorell, where three people were arrested, as well as in Sant Andreu de la Barca, Terrassa, Sant Vicenç dels Horts, Piera and Castellbisbal. In Reus, there was also cash, several quantities of drugs, a marijuana plantation and two vehicles confiscated.

The police operation, codenamed Infinit, was the continuation of investigations carried out since 30 August, following the arrest of 17 people in Cala de Vallcarca, in the municipality of Sitges. That operation had been linked to a narco boat, and which became key to dismantling one of the most active criminal gangs dedicated to drug trafficking in Catalonia, and which also resulted in the largest confiscation of hashish that has ever been carried out in Spain.
