Fallen rock causes motorcycle accident on Sitges coastal road

A fallen boulder of rock caused an accident last Thursday afternoon on the Sitges coastal road.

A motorcyclist travelling in the direction of Sitges was startled by the falling stone – more than one metre high and deep – and lost control of his motorcycle, falling onto the road in a section between the Botigues area and Garraf.

The man was treated by an ambulance from the Medical Emergency Service and was taken by helicopter to Bellvitge Hospital. Despite the spectacular nature of the accident, the driver only had minor injuries and his medical prognosis is favourable.

The incident caused delays of more than two kilometres. The detachment of the rock occurred after the downpours of recent days, in which Sitges has recorded practically the same amount of rain in 24 hours as in the last six months.

Some regular drivers of the costal road have previously denounced through social media the poor condition of the rock wall along sections of the road, and the lack of protective elements in case of landslides, such as now.
