This week Sitges Town Council has started to install new defibrillators (AEDs) in some of the busiest areas of the town. The goal is for the service to be available 24 hours a day, every day of the week.
In order to place the devices in the areas with the most traffic, the council has chosen to install the DEAs in the centre of the town, in residential areas and on the promenade.
To be able to offer the basic knowledge of how to use the device, the council will also provide free training, in collaboration with the Prado and the Retiro. In 2022, more than a 100 people took part in the corresponding training, including the Sitges local police, staff from the municipal market and teaching staff from educational centres.
Defibrillators are portable electronic devices that are used to analyse the heart rhythm and identify when a person should be treated with an electric jolt. In total, there will be 47 devices that the town will have, and 32 of them will be located in public spaces. The local police of Sitges will have one fixed device at the station and three for vehicles in order to attend to any emergency.
