A regional Garraf taxi service starts, but without Sitges

A new ‘Taxi del Garraf’ service has started, offering a joint service area between all the municipalities in the Garraf region, but with the exception of Sitges, which has decided to remain on the sidelines.

The initiative will allow the towns across the Garraf region to be connected from now on, establishing inter-municipal coordination and unifying the taxi rates. From the Taxis Association of Sitges, however, they decided to remain firm ‘in our decision’ not to be part of the new regional taxi service.

In the statement issued by the Garraf Regional Council, the door has been left open to ‘the possibility that in the future the municipality of Sitges can join’.

The decision to not join had generated controversy at the time, as the local sector has received criticism for the long waiting times that occurred last summer, especially at weekends.

Precisely, one of the aspects that the taxi drivers from the rest of the Garraf region have valued most when signing this agreement is that from now on they will be able to ‘provide a better service to the public, more quickly, especially at times when there’s a lot of work, and in which the groups of taxi drivers in the smaller municipalities do not get to’.
