Work on the Sitges waste water pipe enters its final stretch

The new waste water pipe, which will pass underground along the promenade in Sitges and replace the current one which passes underground along the beaches, has entered the last phase of its construction and is currently being worked on in the Fragata area.

The aim of the work is to avoid situations where there is a risk of the current pipeline breaking, due to storms. Previously, the waste water pipe that passes through the beaches of La Fragata, La Ribera, Bassa Rodona and l’Estanyol, spills onto the beach and into the sea when it gets damaged.

The works began in May 2022, on the section between Avinguda Sofia and Playa de l’Estanyol (one of the sections where the pipe caused the most problems) and stopped during the summer season. Once the summer ended, the work resumed in the area between Avinguda Sofia and Pont d’en Domènech, causing several cuts to the promenade.

The forecast is for the work to end in the Spring of this year. The budget for all the work is €1.2 million, which is being covered by the Catalan Water Agency.
