Malvasia wine from Sitges wins three awards, two internationally

In just two weeks, the local Malvasia de Sitges wine from the Celler de l’Hospital has received three notable distinctions, two of which are at an international level and another, Catalan. It has won a Gold Medal in the prestigious Brussels Competition, and a high score in the Robert Parker List, a world reference in wine evaluations.

The awards are the result of actions carried out to position the different varieties of Malvasia wines from Sitges as a product associated with quality.

The Gold Medal from the Brussels Competition was awarded to the Malvasia de Sitges Seca of 2011, which was assessed in the category of ‘generous, sweet and fortified wines’, and which made its debut in the competition this year. The Brussels Competition is one of world’s most prestigious. Each year it is held in a different city (there are several categories that are divided between several towns). This year it was held in a region of southern Italy.

The Malvasia Seca wine has also been recognised with another international distinction by attaining a high score in the Robert Parker List, one of the world’s references in wine tasting and assessment. It obtained 93 out of 100 points, a figure that placed it in the highest range.

This year’s promotion is part of a campaign carried out by the Vinyaters del Garraf to position their wines. Other productions of Malvasia de Sitges from the territory have also been awarded with high scores: Sasserra de Vega de Ribes (93 points), Cos del Guarans (93), Torre del Veguer (92) and Clos Lentiscus (91).

The Celler de l’Hospital has recently received another award – a Silver Vinari Award, in the aged white wine category, and which was presented last Friday at the Vinari gala, held in Vilafranca.
