The danger of fires in the Garraf park near Sitges remains ‘very high’

This week’s map from the Catalan government that monitors potential forest fires has kept the Garraf massif at a ‘very high’ level. The high temperatures and current drought situation means the Garraf remains at this warning level, especially within the interior area, where the humidity is lower.

The map of predicted danger prepared by the Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda of the Catalan government has marked the interior of the massif in the red zone, considered ‘very high danger’, with the coastal part, as well as the rest of the region, in orange, which is ‘high danger’.

With the Garraf Park on alert for fire risks, like other natural parks across Catalonia, the authorities’ Alpha 3 Plan was activated over the weekend, regulating access to forest tracks, banning vehicle parking, prohibiting camping and also limiting leisure activities.

The Garraf massif has had three fires this year: two in Can Pere la Plana, in Sant Pere de Ribes (one in April and the other in June), and another in Can Suriol (in June). The last two were suspected arson attacks and the Mossos d’Esquadra arrested their alleged perpetrators. ALSO READ: Young man arrested for two fires in the Garraf park near Sitges.
