A survey places Sitges residents as the ‘happiest’ across Catalonia

A study carried out in collaboration with the international consultancy agency, YouGov, indicates that Sitges residents have the ‘highest happiness index’ across all other towns in Catalonia.

The results of the study, commissioned by the Azucarera company, were announced a few days ago, to coincide with World Happiness Day, celebrated on 20 March. You can click here for the full results of the 35 happiest towns across the whole of Spain.

The work is the result of a survey carried out in November 2023 of 1,000 people and resulted in a list of the 35 ‘happiest’ municipalities in Spain. Among the list are three towns on the Catalan coast: Sitges, Salou and Cadaqués, ranked 16, 18 and 25 respectively. Sitges is ranked highest for Catalonia.

The respondents highlighted Sitges for its ‘beauty, climate, festivals and activities’. On the contrary, what is not highlighted is the excessive price of housing, which is forcing young people to leave the municipality due to the impossibility of finding affordable renting.
