Sitges collection points for provisions for the victims of the attacks in Ukraine

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has led to widespread rejection by the international community, as well as many expressions of solidarity around the world. At the local level, Sitges is no exception. Schools, sports clubs and other groups in the town are launching collections of food and basic necessities in solidarity. Some already have specified schedules, whilst others will be finalised in the next few days.

In addition to the publicly announced formal collections, there are spontaneous collections at the private level. There are also some local residents of Ukrainian origin who plan to return to their country to join the citizen militias that are trying to protect the cities from the Russian army. They are also wanting to take advantage of the journeys in their own vehicles to take provisions to their fellow citizens.

The Catalan National Assembly (ANC) has also collected several boxes of material to take to Ukraine for distribution among the victims of the Russian aggression. The Catalan pro-independence organisation set up a stand on Carrer Sant Francesc on Saturday morning, collecting several boxes of material and money.

The organisation is now studying the best form of transportation. One option is to add it to a shipment made by the ANC nationwide, based on material collected from various towns. But they are also looking at the possibility of making a shipment from Sitges, along with other entities involved in similar initiatives. The ANC intend to contact the other local groups to see if there is a joint transport option.

Other organisations that are collecting money and material for the victims in Ukraine include Bàsquet Sitges and various schools, the IES Joan Ramon Benaprès, Escola Pia, Agnès and Maria Ossó. These schools are open for collections from Monday to Friday9h-17h. The Pavelló de Pins Vens is also open for collections from Friday to Sunday, 9h-12h and 17h-19h. In addition, Caritas has opened this current account to deposit money and allocate it to the victims of the war: ES65 2100 5000 5802 0004 2738.
