The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Friday 18 February for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 10,809,222. This is an increase of 30,615 against Thursday’s figure. Thursday had seen an increase of 37,108 over Wednesday.

The incidence rate has fallen 65 points to 919 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Thursday it was 984 and Wednesday 1,060. The highest recorded incidence rate in Spain throughout the entire pandemic was 3,418 on Friday 21 January. See below for the current incidence rate for each region.

The age group with the highest incidence rate is those aged 12-19, at 1,370. The incidence rates per age group are as follows:

  • Aged 11 and under – 1,191 (previously 1,307)
  • 12-19 years – 1,370 (1,451)
  • 20-29 years – 1,050 (1,111)
  • 30-39 years – 1,033 (1,118)
  • 40-49 years – 1,002 (1,079)
  • 50-59 years – 656 (691)
  • 60-69 years – 565 (595)
  • 70-79 years – 603 (639)
  • Aged 80 and over – 882 (941)

There are currently 9,742 people hospitalised for Covid-19 (previously 10,251), representing a 7.84% occupation of hospital beds across Spain (8.25%). 1,284 are in intensive care (1,351), representing 13.79% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid patients across the country (14.48%).

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Friday 18 Feb is now 97,998 – an increase of 288 since Thursday.

The current incidence rate for each region on Friday 18 Feb is as follows:

  • 1,500 in Galicia (previous incidence rate: 1,575)
  • 1,335 in Murcia (1,416)
  • 1,221 in the Valencia Region (1,327)
  • 1,186 in Cantabria (1,316)
  • 1,183 in Catalonia (1,270)
  • 1,180 in Extremadura (1,256)
  • 1,146 in Aragón (1,223)
  • 1,050 in Navarra (1,143)
  • 1,033 in Castilla y León (1,110)
  • 1,021 in Asturias (1,120)
  • 995 in La Rioja (1,054)
  • 907 in the Balearic Islands (973)
  • 887 in the Basque Country (984)
  • 670 in Madrid (730)
  • 663 in Castilla La Mancha (750)
  • 525 in the Canary Islands (531)
  • 471 in Andalusia (473)
  • 714 in Ceuta (772)
  • 534 in Melilla (602)

Latest figures (with data collated up to Wednesday 16 February) show that Spain has administered 92,022,504 jabs of the Covid vaccine. 38,396,333 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 81.0% of the total population. A further 23,653,058 ‘booster’ jabs have also been administered.
