The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Thursday 17 February for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 10,778,607. This is an increase of 34,213 against Wednesday’s figure. Wednesday had seen an increase of 37,108 over Tuesday.
The incidence rate has fallen 76 points to 984 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days – the first time it has been below 1,000 since 23 December. On Wednesday it was 1,060 and Tuesday 1,142. The highest recorded incidence rate in Spain throughout the entire pandemic was 3,418 on Friday 21 January. See below for the current incidence rate for each region.
The age group with the highest incidence rate is those aged 12-19, at 1,451. The incidence rates per age group are as follows:
- Aged 11 and under – 1,307 (previously 1,443)
- 12-19 years – 1,451 (1,564)
- 20-29 years – 1,111 (1,186)
- 30-39 years – 1,118 (1,221)
- 40-49 years – 1,079 (1,171)
- 50-59 years – 691 (731)
- 60-69 years – 595 (630)
- 70-79 years – 639 (675)
- Aged 80 and over – 941 (986)
There are currently 10,251 people hospitalised for Covid-19 (previously 10,898), representing a 8.25% occupation of hospital beds across Spain (8.77%). 1,351 are in intensive care (1,372), representing 14.48% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid patients across the country (14.72%).
The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Thursday 17 Feb is now 97,710 – an increase of 360 since Wednesday.

- 1,575 in Galicia (previous incidence rate: 1,682)
- 1,416 in Murcia (1,532)
- 1,327 in the Valencia Region (1,462)
- 1,316 in Cantabria (1,464)
- 1,270 in Catalonia (1,386)
- 1,256 in Extremadura (1,335)
- 1,223 in Aragón (1,380)
- 1,143 in Navarra (1,247)
- 1,120 in Asturias (1,179)
- 1,110 in Castilla y León (1,191)
- 1,054 in La Rioja (1,098)
- 984 in the Basque Country (1,084)
- 973 in the Balearic Islands (1,069)
- 750 in Castilla La Mancha (795)
- 730 in Madrid (788)
- 531 in the Canary Islands (531)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain
Latest figures (with data collated up to Thursday 10 February) show that Spain has administered 91,411,886 jabs of the Covid vaccine. 38,372,822 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 81.0% of the total population. A further 23,184,245 ‘booster’ jabs have also been administered.
