CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Wednesday 25 Aug for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 4,815,205. This is an overall increase of 10,781 against the figure released on Tuesday, of which 5,580 have been registered in the past 24 hours.

Tuesday had seen an overall increase of 10,072 over Monday, of which 5,222 were registered in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered.

The overall incidence rate across Spain has fallen 14 points to 291.28 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Tuesday it was 305.61 and Monday 317.35.

The incidence rate has fallen since yesterday for each age group per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days, as follows:

  • Under 11 – 328 (yesterday was 342)
  • Aged 12-19 – 609 (639)
  • Aged 20-29 482 (517)
  • Aged 30-39 – 286 (302)
  • Aged 40-49 – 234 (242)
  • Aged 50-59 – 201 (211)
  • Agend 60-69 – 170 (177)
  • Aged 70-79 – 154 (158)
  • Over 80 – 226 (232)

There have now been 138,216 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 4,815,205. The figure for the past 7 days is 59,889. 

There are currently 7,657 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain (7,959 yesterday), of which 1,760 are in intensive are (1,769). This represents 19.22% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain (19.28%). It remains highest at 37.48% in Catalonia (38.33%).

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Wednesday 25 Aug is 83,690 – an increase of 163 since Tuesday.

Increase in infections per region

Of the 5,580 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours on Wednesday 25 Aug, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 1,416 in Madrid (last 24 hour increase was 1,283)
  • 739 in Catalonia (938)
  • 595 in the Basque Country (459)
  • 430 in Castilla y León (470)
  • 389 in Extremadura (396)
  • 337 in Aragón (203)
  • 316 in Galicia (215)
  • 241 in Murcia (163)
  • 240 in Andalusia (112)
  • 236 in the Canary Islands (206)
  • 130 in the Valencia Region (137)
  • 115 in Cantabria (194)
  • 97 in the Balearic Islands (112)
  • 94 in Navarra (102)
  • 67 in Asturias (87)
  • 62 in La Rioja (66)
  • 34 in Castilla La Mancha (8) 
  • 17 in Ceuta (51)
  • 25 in Melilla (20)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (up to 25 Aug) show that Spain has administered 64,312,970 jabs of Covid-19 vaccines. 35,950,365 people have now received at least one jab, representing 75.8% of the total population. 31,930,874 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 67.3% of the total population.
