Coronavirus in Spain (30 Aug) – incidence rate below ‘extreme risk’

CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Monday 30 Aug for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 4,847,298. This is an overall increase of 15,489 against the figure released on Friday, of which 1,380 have been registered in the past 24 hours. Cantabria and Castilla y León have not updated their figures today.

Friday had seen an overall increase of 9,489 over Thursday, of which 4,612 were registered in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered.

The overall incidence rate across Spain has fallen 22 points to 242.18 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days – which means it is below the extreme risk level for the first time since 7 July, when the fifth wave of Covid started. On Friday it was 264.13 and Thursday 276.43.

The incidence rate has fallen since yesterday for each age group per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days, as follows:

  • Under 11 – 240 (previously 304)
  • Aged 12-19 – 417 (538)
  • Aged 20-29 312 (414)
  • Aged 30-39 – 201 (255)
  • Aged 40-49 – 175 (218)
  • Aged 50-59 – 147 (186)
  • Agend 60-69 – 125 (157)
  • Aged 70-79 – 116 (145)
  • Over 80 – 173 (218)

There have now been 114,918 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 4,847,298. The figure for the past 7 days is 47,111. 

There are currently 7,114 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain (7,206 yesterday), of which 1,652 are in intensive are (1,685). This represents 18.04% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain (18.37%).

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Monday 30 Aug is 84,146 – an increase of 146 since Friday.

Increase in infections per region

Of the 1,380 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours on Monday 30 Aug, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 276 in the Basque Country (last 24hr increase: 469)
  • 219 in Catalonia (597)
  • 206 in Madrid (1,167)
  • 126 in Extremadura (299)
  • 112 in the Canary Islands (204)
  • 104 in Galicia (261)
  • 69 in Navarra (87)
  • 63 in Aragón (219)
  • 49 in Andalusia (235)
  • 40 in the Balearic Islands (110)
  • 32 in Asturias (76)
  • 31 in Murcia (155)
  • 23 in La Rioja (60)
  • 6 in the Valencia Region (136)
  • in Castilla La Mancha (30) 
  • 0 in Cantabria (92) – no update today
  • 0 in Castilla y León (355) – no update today
  • 9 in Ceuta (27)
  • 14 in Melilla (33)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (up to 30 Aug) show that Spain has administered 65,444,891 jabs of Covid-19 vaccines. 36,346,563 people have now received at least one jab, representing 76.6% of the total population. 32,811,664 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 69.1% of the total population.
