CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Friday 6 Aug for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 4,588,132. This is an overall increase of 21,561 against the figure released on Thursday, of which 10,540 have occurred in the past 24 hours.

Thursday had seen an overall increase of 21,387 over Wednesday, of which 11,315 occurred in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered.

The overall incidence rate has fallen by 23 points to 591.14 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Thursday it was 614.88 and Wednesday 633.81.

The incidence for each age group per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days is as follows:

  • Under 11 – 557 (yesterday 565)
  • Aged 12-19 – 1,315 (1,360)
  • Aged 20-29 – 1,332 (1,403)
  • Aged 30-39 – 682 (717)
  • Aged 40-49 – 401 (412)
  • Aged 50-59 – 342 (347)
  • Agend 60-69 – 307 (315)
  • Aged 70-79 – 222 (223)
  • Over 80 – 294 (296)

There have now been 280,503 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 4,588,132. The figure for the past 7 days is 116,163

There are currently 10,015 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain (10,004 yesterday), of which 1,928 are in intensive care (1,925 yesterday). This represents 20.87% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain (20.78% yesterday). It remains highest at 48% in Catalonia.

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Friday 6 Aug is 82,006 – an increase of 75 since Thursday.

Increase in infections per region

Of the 10,540 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours on Friday 6 Aug, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 2,537 in Madrid (last 24 hour increase was 2,828)
  • 1,521 in Catalonia (1,695)
  • 944 in the Basque Country (985)
  • 844 in Castilla y León (810)
  • 700 in Galicia (671)
  • 625 in the Canary Islands (754)
  • 592 in Aragón (678)
  • 567 in Andalusia (570)
  • 436 in Extremadura (430)
  • 354 in Murcia (466)
  • 291 in Cantabria (183)
  • 273 in the Valencia Region (268)
  • 268 in Navarra (279)
  • 175 in Asturias (229)
  • 174 in the Balearic Islands (190)
  • 148 in La Rioja (145)
  • 52 in Castilla La Mancha (29) 
  • 16 in Ceuta (68)
  • 23 in Melilla (37)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (up to 6 Aug) show that Spain has administered 58,542,495 jabs of Covid-19 vaccines. 33,141,450 people have now received at least one jab, representing 69.8% of the total population. 28,255,949 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 59.5% of the total population.
