CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Wednesday 4 Aug for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 4,545,184. This is an overall increase of 21,874 against the figure released on Tuesday, of which 11,765 have occurred in the past 24 hours

Tuesday had seen an overall increase of 20,327 over Monday, of which 10,206 occurred in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered.

The overall incidence rate has fallen by another 20 points to 633.81 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Tuesday it was 653.81 and Monday 673.52.

The incidence for each age group per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days is as follows:

  • Under 11 – 532 (yesterday 584)
  • Aged 12-19 – 1,318 (1,468)
  • Aged 20-29 – 1,387 (1,559)
  • Aged 30-39 – 701 (784)
  • Aged 40-49 – 392 (435)
  • Aged 50-59 – 322 (354)
  • Agend 60-69 – 296 (327)
  • Aged 70-79 – 202 (221)
  • Over 80 – 272 (297)

There have now been 300,398 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 4,545,184. The figure for the past 7 days is 126,116

There are currently 10,184 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain (10,317 yesterday), of which 1,904 are in intensive care (1,867 yesterday). This represents 20.76% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain (20.40% yesterday). It remains highest at 47% in Catalonia.

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Wednesday 4 Aug is 81,844 – an increase of 71 since Tuesday.

Increase in infections per region

Of the 11,765 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours on Wednesday 4 Aug, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 3,193 in Madrid (last 24 hour increase was 2,800)
  • 1,861 in Catalonia (2,332)
  • 985 in the Basque Country (794)
  • 824 in Castilla y León (756)
  • 727 in the Canary Islands (602)
  • 695 in Galicia (452)
  • 621 in Aragón (396)
  • 559 in Andalusia (298)
  • 397 in Murcia (314)
  • 385 in Extremadura (320)
  • 301 in Navarra (207)
  • 296 in the Valencia Region (169)
  • 226 in Cantabria (200)
  • 212 in the Balearic Islands (230)
  • 201 in Asturias (198)
  • 188 in La Rioja (86)
  • 46 in Castilla La Mancha (14) 
  • 26 in Ceuta (19)
  • 22 in Melilla (19)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (up to 4 Aug) show that Spain has administered 57,653,031 jabs of Covid-19 vaccines. 32,650,750 people have now received at least one jab, representing 68.8% of the total population. 27,811,786 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 58.6% of the total population.
