The re-opening of nightlife in Sitges has resulted in partially dispersing the crowds of youngsters that have filled the breakwaters, with a notably lower number of people than in previous weeks.
The Carrer Primer de Maig, however, was full during the celebrations of the midweek Sant Joan festival and also during this past weekend. Despite the rainy weather, the street registered an atmosphere typical of summer nights from years past. Even though there was a high concentration of revellers, most of the young people who were present did not wear a face mask.
Local Sitges police and the Mossos d’Esquadra patrolled the area at different times, both to control the access points and to ensure that there were no problems. Police agents were also in the Ribera area, without any incidents being recorded.
The number of young people who were at the breakwaters was lower over the weekend than on the previous one. By the time music bars closed at 3.30am, the crowds of people increased for a while. The hospitality sector considers that opening the clubs until 6am – as before the pandemic – would further disperse the crowds on the seawalls.
