A recent municipal plenary session has given the go ahead for the project of creating a cluster for industrial refrigeration businesses near Sant Pere de Ribes.
All the council’s political groups voted in favour of the project and have approved the first steps of the initiative: the modification of the land use in the area, which is in the industrial estate of Vilanoveta, where the company AKO is currently located, specialising in refrigeration. The aim of the council is to establish a public-private research centre in this field, and for it to be a reference throughout Catalonia.
In the creation of this refrigeration business cluster, there is an aim of maintaining a clear commitment to research, with the formation of a specific area dedicated to investigation, innovation and the development of new technological lines to promote the local industry of Sant Pere de Ribes.
The council aims to strengthen the local business fabric by consolidating existing companies and attracting new ones that work in the refrigeration sector. With this initiative, the council also seeks to diversify the local economy and create quality jobs with added value.
