Elderly residents now starting to receive third dose of Covid vaccine

A third dose of the Covid vaccine has already started to be administered to the elderly in Sitges and Sant Pere de Ribes. As was the case with the start of the vaccination programme at the beginning of this year, nursing homes are the first recipients of the third phase of inoculations, which aim to strengthen immune effectiveness.

In Sant Pere de Ribes, 191 third doses have already been administered, while in Sitges there have been 27, although the figure will rise next week. The residential care homes have been collating the requests to be accepted for a third dose from the residents themselves and their families. Supply will begin again on Thursday at the Sant Joan Baptista hospital.

The vaccination programme continues to advance in both towns, although Sant Pere de Ribes has recorded a higher speed, only slightly below the national average. With Sitges, the percentage difference with respect to Catalonia as a whole has widened. The reason is that with the high number of foreign residents, in some cases their vaccinations have not been included in the local data.

The total number of residents in Sitges who have received the full vaccination is 68.40%, while in Sant Pere de Ribes it is 71%, in line with the national average (71.58%). This equates to more than 20,000 fully vaccinated in Sitges and 21,000 in Sant Pere de Ribes.

On Tuesday the CAP in Sitges held a new vaccination marathon, between 3pm and 7.30pm. All those over the age of 12 could attend, with their health card or identification number. Second doses were also given to those who already had the first jab, even if they were from another municipality.
