Average wait time for emergency services at St Camil surpasses 100 minutes

Sant Camil hospital in Sant Pere de Ribes is the hospital with the second longest wait time for emergency services in Catalonia. At an average of 104 minutes throughout 2023, it is only surpassed by the Hospital del Mar in Barcelona, at 114 minutes, while the average across Catalonia stands at 62 minutes.

These are figures from the Catalan Health Department, obtained by the ACN (Catalan News Agency) through a request for transparency.

Despite this high number, the local hospital has reduced its waiting time by 52 minutes over the previous year, when the average was well over two and a half hours, at 156 minutes; this means a reduction of some 33%. On the other hand, wait times at Sant Camil have practically doubled compared to 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic.

The management committee of the Consorci Sanitari de l’Alt Penedès-Garraf has stressed that the differences between the hospitals around Catalonia are due to factors such as demand, the seriousness of the cases, and the organisation of services at each institution. For its part, the management of Sant Camil has criticised these latest figures but acknowledges that ‘the state of Emergency Services is very worrying’.
