Fines to commence for vehicles in pedestrian zones in Ribes & Roquetes

The vehicle access control system with video surveillance cameras and number plate recognition in the pedestrian zones of Sant Pere de Ribes and les Roquettes will start issuing fines from 1 March.

With eight cameras monitoring different streets in the centre of Ribes and les Roquetes, where it is forbidden to drive, starting from March vehicles that violate the rule and drive without the relevant authorisation will be fined.

The cameras were finally installed in January 2023. After processing the regulations governing access to pedestrian areas and after allowing time for the public to get used to the restrictions, fines will be imposed from 100 euros to the owners of vehicles that do not have authorisation to drive in those zones.

The aim is to improve access control to the areas. Until now, this was done through a bollards system which, the council itself acknowledges, sometimes didn’t work, were used irregularly or were vandalised. For this reason, they will be withdrawn.
