Half of all drivers controlled by Sitges local police at weekend fined for an offence

The Sitges local police carried out a check on 24 vehicles during the past weekend, in which half were fined for different types of infringements.

This is one of the highest percentages of violations in the controls carried out by the local police, even higher than other patrols during much busier periods, such as New Year’s Eve or Carnival.

The control organised by the police was a breathalyser and drug test, and it was carried out on Paseo de Vilafranca on Saturday night. Of the 24 vehicles stopped, the drivers of six exceeded the limits set by the law. Among these, four received charges for crimes against public security for excessive amounts, while two were for ‘administrative violations’.

One of the vehicles was stopped and clamped, in the same Passeig de Vilafranca, since neither its driver or passengers were in a position to drive it away.

In addition, however, six other vehicles were fined for other reasons: three because some of their members were not wearing their seat belts, two because the vehicles had not passed the necessary ITV and one because there were too many passengers.
