Work has started to prepare Sitges beaches for the spring-summer season. Sitges Town Council has recently approved the contracts for the preparation of the beaches in order to start the services on the sand, planned for Holy Week.
Specifically, 38 double stainless steel foot washers will be installed, with the corresponding benches and supporting walkways. There will also be 31 stainless steel showers with wooden walkways, of which six are suitable for people with reduced mobility. In addition, previous maintenance included the adaptation of the drinking water supply network.
In parallel, the council has contracted the Coastal Cleaning Service, which collects a significant amount of waste located at the bottom of the sea during the summer, along the Sitges coast. The boat will cover 37.4 kilometres of the coast between mid-June and mid-September. During the past season, the service collected 718kg of rubbish, 42% more than during the summer of 2021.
Residents have also been surprised to see the construction of what appears to be a ‘chiringuito’ very close to the sea on the beach towards the Terramar, the first to be constructed this season (pictured). However, we can report that it is in fact a temporary set being built to film some episodes of ‘Masterchef’ in Sitges.
