Filming in Sitges increases by 23%

Sitges saw a 23% increase in filming last year, compared to the previous year. The data from the Node Film Clúster organisation shows not only a quantitative increase, but also qualitative, since some of the production companies with greater international projection have chosen Sitges among their locations.

The increase in both the number of film, TV and commercial shoots and the turnover shows that Sitges has become am important location for the industry. Currently, filming in Sitges represents 90% of the audiovisual productions managed by Node Film Clúster in the three counties of the Penedès. The growth of 23% in relation to the year 2021 has been complemented by an increase of 46.43% in the number of filming days of crews in the town.

This increase was also reflected in income: direct production expenditure in the town was close to €500,000 and a further €346,020 in transactions from participating individuals during 2022.

Important platforms in the sector, such as Netflix, HBO or Amazon Prime have chosen spaces such as Port de Vallcarca, Garraf beach, Sant Sebastià beach and Paseo de la Ribera as settings for their productions. In the advertising field, brands such as Adidas, Apple, BMW or Calvin Klein, among others, also recorded their commercials in the town during the past financial year.

The local council’s department of economic promotion stressed that 2022 ‘represents a great success’ for the town and states that the council’s aim is to continue ‘working to position Sitges as the benchmark in southern Europe for the audiovisual production sector’.
