CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Thursday 24 February for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 10,949,997. This is an increase of 35,892 against Wednesday’s figure. Wednesday had seen an increase of 33,911 over Tuesday.

The incidence rate has fallen 28 points to 648 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Wednesday it was 676 and Tuesday 735. The highest recorded incidence rate in Spain throughout the entire pandemic was 3,418 on Friday 21 January. See below for the current incidence rate for each region.

The age group with the highest incidence rate is those aged 12-19, at 983. The incidence rates per age group are as follows:

  • Aged 11 and under – 720 (previously 775)
  • 12-19 years – 983 (1,030)
  • 20-29 years – 792 (820)
  • 30-39 years – 713 (743)
  • 40-49 years – 691 (721)
  • 50-59 years – 492 (508)
  • 60-69 years – 421 (432)
  • 70-79 years – 457 (472)
  • Aged 80 and over – 645 (665)

There are currently 7,824 people hospitalised for Covid-19 (previously 8,258), representing a 6.27% occupation of hospital beds across Spain (6.64%). 1,112 are in intensive care (1,162), representing 11.95% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid patients across the country (12.52%).

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Thursday 24 Feb is now 99,162 – an increase of 226 since Wednesday.

The current incidence rate for each region on Thursday 24 Feb is as follows:

  • 1,059 in Galicia (previous incidence rate: 1,126)
  • 920 in Murcia (977)
  • 831 in Catalonia (843)
  • 810 in Extremadura (881)
  • 761 in the Valencia Region (841)
  • 758 in La Rioja (795)
  • 742 in Asturias (767)
  • 741 in Cantabria (809)
  • 727 in Aragón (780)
  • 725 in Castilla y León (781)
  • 706 in Navarra (745)
  • 650 in the Canary Islands (611)
  • 600 in the Balearic Islands (639)
  • 559 in the Basque Country (603)
  • 435 in Madrid (476)
  • 418 in Andalusia (390)
  • 399 in Castilla La Mancha (433)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (with data collated up to Wednesday 16 February) show that Spain has administered 92,022,504 jabs of the Covid vaccine. 38,396,333 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 81.0% of the total population. A further 23,653,058 ‘booster’ jabs have also been administered.
