The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Wednesday 16 February for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 10,744,394. This is an increase of 37,108 against Tuesday’s figure. Tuesday had seen an increase of 34,380 over Monday.

The incidence rate has fallen 82 points to 1,060 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Tuesday it was 1,142 and Monday 1,244. The highest recorded incidence rate in Spain throughout the entire pandemic was 3,418 on Friday 21 January. See below for the current incidence rate for each region.

The age group with the highest incidence rate is those aged 11 and under, at 1,443. The incidence rates per age group are as follows:

  • Aged 11 and under – 1,443 (previously 1,604)
  • 12-19 years – 1,564 (1,676)
  • 20-29 years – 1,186 (1,265)
  • 30-39 years – 1,221 (1,331)
  • 40-49 years – 1,171 (1,268)
  • 50-59 years – 731 (773)
  • 60-69 years – 630 (666)
  • 70-79 years – 675 (710)
  • Aged 80 and over – 986 (1,034)

There are currently 10,898 people hospitalised for Covid-19 (previously 11,438), representing a 8.77% occupation of hospital beds across Spain (9.21%). 1,372 are in intensive care (1,459), representing 14.72% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid patients across the country (15.64%).

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Wednesday 16 Feb is now 97,350 – an increase of 444 since Tuesday.

The current incidence rate for each region on Wednesday 16 Feb is as follows:

  • 1,682 in Galicia (previous incidence rate: 1,790)
  • 1,532 in Murcia (1,669)
  • 1,464 in Cantabria (1,602)
  • 1,462 in the Valencia Region (1,605)
  • 1,386 in Catalonia (1,479)
  • 1,380 in Aragón (1,519)
  • 1,335 in Extremadura (1,396)
  • 1,247 in Navarra (1,384)
  • 1,191 in Castilla y León (1,273)
  • 1,179 in Asturias (1,266)
  • 1,098 in La Rioja (1,133)
  • 1,084 in the Basque Country (1,216)
  • 1,069 in the Balearic Islands (1,164)
  • 795 in Castilla La Mancha (859)
  • 788 in Madrid (835)
  • 531 in the Canary Islands (544)
  • 473 in Andalusia (511)
  • 836 in Ceuta (906)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (with data collated up to Thursday 10 February) show that Spain has administered 91,411,886 jabs of the Covid vaccine. 38,372,822 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 81.0% of the total population. A further 23,184,245 ‘booster’ jabs have also been administered.
