The local Sant Camil Hospital sees 50% decrease in Covid patients in 15 days

The local Sant Camil Hospital has halved the number of Covid admissions in just 15 days. There are currently 24 people hospitalised with Coronavirus, which is half the figure recorded at the end of January.

The peak of the sixth wave was on 24 January this year, when 63 people were hospitalised with the disease. These figures are far from the low numbers of October and early November, but also well below the worst months of the pandemic, in Spring 2020 and January 2021.

The sad news, however, is that deaths are still occurring due to the virus. In the two years since the pandemic began, 236 people have died at the Sant Pere de Ribes hospital who had also been diagnosed as being infected with Covid. This does not mean, however, that all died as a result of Covid, as the sixth wave has multiplied the number of patients who were in a critical or terminal situation and who contracted the virus towards the end of their lives. This is a common scenario in most hospitals across the country.

There were 24 deaths in January of patients who had been diagnosed with Covid. Only two months have been worse in the last two years: April 2020 and January 2021. In the first half of February there have been 7 deaths.
