Sitges surpasses 5,000 Covid cases since the start of pandemic

The sixth wave of Covid continues. This week there have been 520 new cases in Sitges and 660 in Sant Pere de Ribes, a disproportionate figure, but lower than last week. The percentage of serious cases remains particularly low, and there are currently only three people in Sitges hospitalised by Covid.

This week, Sitges has surpassed 5,000 cases of Covid since the pandemic began. The 4,000 barrier was surpassed on the last day of 2021. In less than two weeks, therefore, 1,000 more cases have been registered. The fifth wave (beginning of July) and the sixth wave (just before the Christmas holidays) are more contagious than the rest of Covid’s almost two years. To these figures should be added the unreported cases.

The 520 new cases in Sitges and 660 in Sant Pere de Ribes, add to the 636 and 881 figures respectively from the previous week. There has been a slight decline, but the figures remain very high. In both towns, the percentage of new cases continues to rise above the Catalan average: 11.38% (Sitges), 13.11% (Sant Pere de Ribes) compared to 9.88% across Catalonia.

The rate of PCR and antigen tests that are positive is still five times higher than recommended by the WHO. In Sitges it is 25.28% and in Sant Pere de Ribes, 24.03%. The Catalan average is even higher at 27.41%.

The rebound risk (iEPG)* also remains out of control: 3,765 points in Sitges and 4,943 in Sant Pere de Ribes. However, The rate of contagion (RT) has fallen: it is 0.99 in Sitges and 1.01 in Sant Pere de Ribes and is a sign that the data could begin to decline in the coming days. The incidence rate in Sitges is 3,847 and in Sant Pere de Ribes 4,859. The Catalan average is 4,011.

*The potential rebound risk (iEPG) measures possible new cases diagnosed over the next 14 days, to evaluate the growth or slowdown in the contagion. It is calculated by multiplying the accumulated incidence rate (IA) and the rate of contagion (RT).
