Sitges schools are half empty for fear of spending Christmas in confinement

Schools in Sitges and Sant Pere de Ribes started the week with significantly less pupils. In addition to those already in confinement, there have been many who did not attend class for fear of possible contagion and having to be isolated during the imminent Christmas holidays. The number of positive cases, however, has dropped in recent days.

Christmas activities have also been phased out at some educational centres. At the Pia School they cancelled the carol singing concert and at the Maria Ossó school, the popular snack scheduled for sixth-graders was also cancelled.

The last school week before Christmas began, however, with a decline in the number of positive cases for the last 10 days. There are now 55 in Sitges and 57 in Sant Pere de Ribes. The number of students confined in Sitges is now 156; two weeks ago it was 462. In Sant Pere de Ribes, on the other hand, the number of confined students has increased and now there are 272.

Maria Ossó School is where the virus has had the most impact in recent weeks: in the last 10 days there have been 23 positive cases and now there are 88 students confined. It is followed by Agnès School (20 confined) and Esteve Barrachina (14). In Sant Pere de Ribes, the Riera school remains the centre that has had the most impact from Covid (eight positives in the last 10 days and 97 confined), and in Les Roquetes, the Santa Eulàlia school (seven positive and 33 confined).
