Suburban Rodalies train network delayed for over an hour

A breakdown at Castelldefels train station caused delays of more than 60 minutes on the line between Sant Vicenç de Calders and Barcelona on Wednesday morning, due to the fact that trains only run on one track.

RENFE prioritised trains running towards Barcelona – as hundreds of people leave Sitges to go to work there every day – but this meant that those making the journey from Barcelona towards Sitges were left to face enormous delays. By mid-morning, the breakdown had been resolved, and it was slowly returning to normal.

The Rodalies service in the metropolitan area of Barcelona is the target of huge criticism for its constant delays, caused by the lack of investment in an antiquated network, leaving thousands of commuters who use the railway to get to their workplace suffering week after week.
