CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Thursday 26 Aug for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 4,822,320. This is an overall increase of 7,115 against the figure released on Wednesday, of which 4,504 have been registered in the past 24 hours.

Wednesday had seen an overall increase of 10,781 over Tuesday, of which 5,580 were registered in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered.

The overall incidence rate across Spain has fallen another 14 points to 276.43 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Wednesday it was 291.28 and Tuesday 305.61.

The incidence rate has fallen since yesterday for each age group per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days, as follows:

  • Under 11 – 314 (yesterday was 328)
  • Aged 12-19 – 570 (609)
  • Aged 20-29 447 (482)
  • Aged 30-39 – 259 (286)
  • Aged 40-49 – 225 (234)
  • Aged 50-59 – 192 (201)
  • Agend 60-69 – 162 (170)
  • Aged 70-79 – 149 (154)
  • Over 80 – 220 (226)

There have now been 131,167 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 4,822,320. The figure for the past 7 days is 55,896. 

There are currently 7,368 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain (7,657 yesterday), of which 1,701 are in intensive are (1,760). This represents 18.54% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain (19.22%). It remains highest at 36.78% in Catalonia (37.48%).

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Thursday 26 Aug is 83,861 – an increase of 171 since Wednesday.

Increase in infections per region

Of the 4,504 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours on Thursday 26 Aug, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 1,323 in Madrid (last 24 hour increase was 1,416)
  • 471 in the Basque Country (595)
  • 412 in Castilla y León (430)
  • 317 in Andalusia (240)
  • 311 in Extremadura (389)
  • 263 in Galicia (316)
  • 261 in Aragón (337)
  • 209 in Murcia (241)
  • 208 in the Canary Islands (236)
  • 148 in the Balearic Islands (97)
  • 130 in Cantabria (115)
  • 102 in the Valencia Region (130)
  • 91 in Navarra (94)
  • 73 in La Rioja (62)
  • 55 in Asturias (67)
  • 47 in Castilla La Mancha (34) 
  • 7 in Catalonia (739)
  • 47 in Ceuta (17)
  • 29 in Melilla (25)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (up to 26 Aug) show that Spain has administered 64,714,501 jabs of Covid-19 vaccines. 36,111,205 people have now received at least one jab, representing 76.1% of the total population. 32,239,782 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 67.9% of the total population.
