CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Friday 13 Aug for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 4,693,540. This is an overall increase of 15,657 against the figure released on Thursday, of which 7,968 have been registered in the past 24 hours.

Thursday had seen an overall increase of 17,410 over Wednesday, of which 8,554 were registered in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered.

The overall incidence rate across Spain has fallen by 21 points to 462.23 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Thursday it was 483.12 and Wednesday 503.42.

The incidence rate has fallen since yesterday for each age group per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days, as follows:

  • Under 11 – 471 (yesterday was 487)
  • Aged 12-19 – 997 (1,043)
  • Aged 20-29 931 (992)
  • Aged 30-39 – 497 (525)
  • Aged 40-49 – 330 (342)
  • Aged 50-59 – 294 (304)
  • Agend 60-69 – 259 (267)
  • Aged 70-79 – 209 (213)
  • Over 80 – 283 (287)

There have now been 219,334 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 4,693,540. The figure for the past 7 days is 89,706. 

There are currently 9,308 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain (9,478 yesterday), of which 1,922 are in intensive care (1,921). This represents 20.78% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain (20.79%). It remains highest at 44.39% in Catalonia (43.91%).

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Friday 13 Aug is 82,470 – an increase of 63 since Thursday.

Increase in infections per region

Of the 7,968 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours on Friday 13 Aug, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 1,844 in Madrid (last 24 hour increase was 2,047)
  • 1,042 in Catalonia (1,192)
  • 816 in the Basque Country (865)
  • 643 in Castilla y León (636)
  • 488 in Andalusia (508)
  • 471 in Galicia (412)
  • 447 in the Canary Islands (490)
  • 392 in Aragón (419)
  • 379 in Murcia (362)
  • 327 in Extremadura (383)
  • 244 in the Valencia Region (218)
  • 209 in Navarra (242)
  • 205 in Cantabria (246)
  • 130 in the Balearic Islands (106)
  • 129 in Asturias (189)
  • 111 in La Rioja (106)
  • 35 in Castilla La Mancha (57) 
  • 43 in Ceuta (61)
  • 13 in Melilla (15)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (up to 13 Aug) show that Spain has administered 60,919,867 jabs of Covid-19 vaccines. 34,455,543 people have now received at least one jab, representing 72.6% of the total population. 29,526,380 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 62.2% of the total population.
