CORONAVIRUS in SPAIN – latest Health Ministry figures

The latest official figure released by the Spanish Health Ministry on Wednesday 11 Aug for the number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is now 4,660,473. This is an overall increase of 17,023 against the figure released on Tuesday, of which 9,192 have been registered in the past 24 hours.

Tuesday had seen an overall increase of 15,680 over Monday, of which 8,001 were registered in 24 hours. The peak of recorded infections for a 24-hour period during the pandemic in Spain was on 21 January, when 18,504 cases were registered.

The overall incidence rate across Spain has fallen by 24 points since yesterday to 503.42 per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days. On Tuesday it was 528.38 and Monday 549.06. The incidence rate has fallen in all regions since yesterday.

The incidence rate for each age group per 100,000 inhabitants for the past 14 days has also fallen, as follows:

  • Under 11 – 503 (yesterday was 521)
  • Aged 12-19 – 1,091 (1,154)
  • Aged 20-29 – 1,055 (1,130)
  • Aged 30-39 – 555 (589)
  • Aged 40-49 – 354 (368)
  • Aged 50-59 – 311 (321)
  • Agend 60-69 – 275 (283)
  • Aged 70-79 – 217 (220)
  • Over 80 – 288 (292)

There have now been 238,875 cases of Coronavirus detected in the past 14 days – out of the total 4,660,473. The figure for the past 7 days is 97,290 

There are currently 9,820 people requiring hospital treatment for Covid-19 in Spain (10,001 yesterday), of which 1,947 are in intensive care (1,987). This represents 21.06% occupation of intensive care units (ICUs) by Covid-19 patients across Spain (21.54%). It remains highest at 45.64% in Catalonia (48.41%).

The official figure for the total number of Coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic on Wednesday 11 Aug is 82,320 – an increase of 93 since Tuesday.

Increase in infections per region

Of the 9,192 new infections to have only been registered in the past 24 hours on Wednesday 11 Aug, the numbers per region are as follows:

  • 2,449 in Madrid (last 24 hour increase was 2,131)
  • 1,296 in Catalonia (1,704)
  • 854 in the Basque Country (602)
  • 738 in Castilla y León (561)
  • 562 in Andalusia (257)
  • 527 in the Canary Islands (372)
  • 411 in Galicia (435)
  • 407 in Aragón (347)
  • 360 in Murcia (265)
  • 342 in Extremadura (328)
  • 249 in the Valencia Region (172)
  • 223 in Navarra (192)
  • 175 in Asturias (149)
  • 173 in Cantabria (203)
  • 171 in the Balearic Islands (151)
  • 152 in La Rioja (79)
  • 41 in Castilla La Mancha (11) 
  • 41 in Ceuta (24)
  • 21 in Melilla (18)

Covid-19 Vaccinations in Spain

Latest figures (up to 11 Aug) show that Spain has administered 59,927,147 jabs of Covid-19 vaccines. 33,871,458 people have now received at least one jab, representing 71.4% of the total population. 28,993,301 people have now been fully vaccinated, which is 61.1% of the total population.
